I re-did my kitchen with $1000.00 in my pocket. When I say re-did, I went all the way. I didn’t do it because I didn’t like my kitchen, I did it because I have four growing kids and it wasn’t working for our life style. I decided to knock out the wall between my family room and kitchen and move my existing cabinets to the opposite wall where my sliding glass door was. I added an island, which my husband built out of mdf, much cheaper than hardwood. Lots of sweat from our part. Countertops, a concrete over lay, we did ourselves. Cabinet a fresh coat of paint goes a long way!The chalk board magnet board, where we can write each other notes or pin up fun memories. It changed our life!

I know that sounds dramatic but it’s true, the right layout in the kitchen/family room can change your life. We all sit around and laugh and talk and be a family, and before it was a place to just fix our meals. Neighbors come over and sit at the counter and eat peanuts for hours just visiting. We also painted the base cabinet black to blend in with the appliances.
